What is insomnia? Signs and symptoms
Insomnia is one of the most frequent causes of medical consultation. Insomnia is a disease that can be defined as the difficulty to fall asleep; however, having more than 3-night awakenings during a night of sleep is also considered insomnia. In the same way, sleeping less than 5 hours is considered insomnia. In this way, we can say that if you present any of these conditions , you might have insomnia
Insomnia has multiple causes. The first ones are anxiety and stress; however other causes include depression, modified lifestyles, environmental factors, and recent trips, among other causes.
According to Ayurvedic medicine
According to Ayurvedic medicine, insomnia occurs because one of the characteristic qualities of the body physicist (the air element, called Dosha Vata) is exacerbated, this element governs the movements, the nervous system, and body tranquility. When rising, the restlessness and constant conscious or unconscious body movements are accentuated, preventing the body from resting.
Ayurvedic treatment of Insomnia:
The treatment of insomnia includes conventional medicines that abolish anxiety and cause sleep, however many people prefer to consume ayurvedic remedies to prevent insomnia, some of these ayurvedic remedies are:
Ashwagandha can be used in the treatment of insomnia. Take 1 or two tablespoons together with 1 cup of warm milk preferably taken before going to sleep. You can add some sugar and cardamom powder mixed, this decreases the symptoms of insomnia
Brahmi helps improve protein activity and protein synthesis, especially in brain cells, which can increase intelligence, longevity, and memory. It is also used as an anti-anxiety agent, to calm restlessness in children, and to cure various mental illnesses such as insomnia. This herb promotes good sleep in the same way
Brahmarasyanam: This tonic made from various herbs used in Ayurvedic medicine helps reduce stress and anxiety levels. It also acts as a hypnotic sedative for those patients suffering from insomnia
Tulasi in India is considered to have many medicinal properties and can be found in a series of Ayurvedic preparations. This herb is used in many Ayurvedic preparations since it decreases the levels of the hormone of cortisol in humans, reducing the level of stress.
