Ayurveda Australia : The Current ScenarioThere are many new updates since my last blog on Ayurveda in Australia. Ayurveda has taken a whole different turn all over the world after AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy) ministry development 2014, in India. Many countries have presence of Ayurveda information cell and AYUSH chairs to promote Ayurveda worldwide. But Australia is still the only country to recognise Ayurveda as a bonafide system of medicine.
AYUSH information cells help in global promotion propagation and promotion of AYUSH systems of medicine and also provide basis for country to country cooperation in AYUSH systems of medicine, setting up of AYUSH academic chairs and signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with foreign governments and universities.
The countries where the AYUSH information cells have been set up include Argentina, Cuba. China, Croatia, Dubai, Russia (2 cells) Hungary, Finland. Russia (2 cells), Indonesia , Israel (2 cells), Mauritius,Malaysia, Mexico, Russia (2 cells), Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Peru, Tanzania, Tajikistan, Trinidad, TobagoSwitzerland, Slovenia, Sweden, Serbia, Venezuela and the UK. The new addition is Australia where Ayurveda cell is now open in Melbourne Australia.
Australia is still waiting to set up the AYUSH chair in one of the universities. Some organisations are working on this but it needs a collaborative approach. The formation of “Ayurveda world “ is one of such initiative to bring every Ayurveda lovers together world wide and bring the positive change for Ayurveda education and research. Indian government is quite supportive at the moment but what will happen after general election in 2019, nobody is sure as yet.
