Opinion : Mandatory or Forced Vaccination
Government policy of “ No Jab, No Pay” has been implemented in Australia wide now. The parents who choose not to vaccinate their kids will loose their Centrelink payments ( Family Tax Benefit Part A supplement and the Childcare benefits). According to new policy every child should meet theimmunisation requirements up to the age of 15 years. It seems like government has left parents with no choice but to have their kids vaccinated. All the vaccinations are usually not mandatory only few of them are necessary. Then why government is pushing every child to have all the vaccinations?
The Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network (AVN) is having opinion which seems right to me that everyone has right to choose vaccinate or not to vaccinate their kids. Vaccination does not provide 100% protection from the disease. There are side effects to the vaccination as well. So we need to have a right to have it or not? Is this a Human right issue?
According to some health professionals vaccination is mandatory for every kid as vaccination has controlled many diseases like Small Pox, Polio, Diphtheria, Measles and saved many lives. There is one example “In 1995 prior to the Chicken Pox vaccine, 11,000 people were hospitalised & 100 people died from this”.
Another group of parents is, who have kids born overseas and vaccinated in the country of their birth. Overseas born kids have been vaccinated according to protocol of their country. But if they have missed a vaccination which was due at the age of five they have to take that vaccination at the age of 12. Their parents have no choice but to have their kids get catch up vaccination. In my opinion this is not right at all.
I am not against vaccination, everyone loves their kids and want them to be healthy. If government is really concerned about the safety of future generation then in my opinion educating their parents about the benefits of vaccination is better than implementing such policies.
How a kid who has not been vaccinated for certain disease is threat to other school kids who have got vaccination already for that disease?
How Australia has its own schedule of vaccination if WHO has its universal vaccination schedule?
In my opinion forcing somebody to do something will not help to prevent diseases at all. Its just like pushing somebody to eat even if they are not hungry.
